Deputy Mineral Resources Minister Godfrey Oliphant today ended a 2 ½-day visit to Vedanta Zinc International’s Black Mountain Mine (BMM) complex in the Northern Cape where he was able to take a detailed look at the developmental, operational and social components of the mine’s activities.

Black Mountain Mining, operated by Vedanta Zinc International, has established an employee share ownership plan (ESOP), the terms of which have been reached through consultation between mine management and the National Union of Mineworkers.

Skorpion Zinc Mine, a subsidiary of Vedanta Zinc International, have reached an agreement in respect of the impact of current restructuring efforts, which will see the retrenchments being minimised.

Skorpion Zinc Mine would like to provide an update to the media on the current status of the mine’s expansion project, and the engagement with employees affected by the transition.
